The works of Stamatis Theoharis, through his existential and aesthetic quests, pursue through a heraldic environment with references to the renaissance, baroque, art nouveau and other earlier artistic movements combined with a variety of symbols derived from contemporary reality and his personal obsessions, to create a world of contradictions and talk about sexuality, the boundaries and fluidity of gender identities, femininity and masculinity and stereotypical perceptions of them. They also talk about the concepts of liberation and acceptance with carnal pleasure, the manifestation of sexuality with fetishism, sadism and masochism, and repressed desires and taboos. At Michali Kioussis, where color and light are dominant, shadows become fundamental, and all representations are realistic yet deeply expressionistic. These compositions are full of clarity and structural completeness so strong, that they could marginally also stand as sculptures.
