Alma Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in this year's Art Market Budapest with five artists: Gregory Grozos, Michalis Kiousis, Dimitris Kokoris, Konstantinos Patsios and Vana Fertaki. Five seemingly different artists join forces, proposing a polyphonic narrative.

Michalis Kiousis, using minimal visual information about the places he depicts, seeks an increasingly universal connection with the viewer. The abstract compositions of Dimitris Kokoris, always guided by experimentation, bring the viewer face to face with forms that are simultaneously familiar and unknown. Konstantinos Patsios takes us on a journey from conceptual art to expressionism to pop art, through his multi- layered and complex playful collages. The intimate interior spaces of Vana Fertaki invite us to ask ourselves what can be formed, in the end, through ambiguity, while the microcosms of Gregory Grozos convey the coexistence of opposing realities and debate fundamental issues such as history, knowledge and the nature of reality…

Artists’ Bios

Gregory Grozos

Gregory Grozos was born in Athens, Greece in 1980. He graduated in 2008 from the Athens School of Fine Arts. He then completed post-graduate studies at the Dutch Art Institute, Deutschland (2009-2010). Grozos is a miniature artist creating extremely fine-detailed, fantastical microcosms using a variety of eccentric materials. His works have been part of various group exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki, Ireland, Cyprus, Deutschland as well as art fairs and private collections in Greece and abroad. He lives and works in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Vana Fertaki

Vana Fertaki was born in Athens, Greece, where she lives and works. She graduated in 2002 from the Athens School of Fine Arts. She has held four solo exhibitions, (Alma Gallery, Athens 2016/ Eikastikos Kiklos Gallery, Athens, 2015/ |Milo Gallery, Athens 2006/ Milo Gallery, Athens 2004) as well as participated in several group exhibitions in Greece. Her works can be found in many private collections in Greece and abroad. Fertaki creates paintings incorporating cellular, organic forms and symbols which are rendered in frenzied compositions and bright colors that are often starkly juxtaposed with black elements.

Konstantinos Patsios

Konstantinos Patsios was born in Athens, Greece in 1977, where he lives and works. He graduated in 2007 from the Athens School of Fine Arts. He has held six solo exhibitions in Athens, London, Paris and Berlin as well as participated in several group exhibitions and art fairs all over Europe. His work is a synthesis of several painting metaphors, from conceptual art and expressionism to pop art, all delivered in a sense of mockery and irony and an invitation to critical discourse. Patsios uses a variety of expressive media, from painting, sculpture, and photography to large scale installations.

Dimitris Kokoris

Dimitris Kokoris was born in Athens in 1990 where he lives and works. He graduated from the Fine Arts Faculty of the Aristotle University, Thessaloniki. In 2012 he did an internship in scenography at Stage One.ltd, UK. In 2019 he was awarded a scholarship for Eastern Culture Studies in ISBI Bandung, Indonesia. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions. His works can be found in the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, GLO Art Center, in Belgium as well as in numerous private collections. Kokkoris uses a variety of media like oil, watercolors, colored pencils and ball-point pen to create intertwining compositions of figures and vegetal forms.

Michalis Kiousis

Michalis Kiousis was born in Athens in 1990 where he lives and works. He studied painting, sculpture and stage design at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 2016-2019 he was awarded a scholarship under the Erasmus + program and worked as an assistant proffesor in painting and drawing at the École Supérieure de Beaux Arts du Port , in Réunion Island. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Through his works Kiousis explores colonial themes deriving from his experience in the recently decolonized island of Reúnion. Kiousis uses mixed media to create human figures that exude a profound sense of movement.
