Alma Gallery celebrates its four-year effort with Drawings and Marks, a museum quality exhibition, that explores the creative process of drawing in Contemporary Greek Art from the beginnings of the 20th Century, through the Modernism of the 1960s, to some of the more intriguing visual artists of our time.
The exhibition aims to trace the forms of drawing, that often go overlooked vis-a-vis large scale art. Included are drawings of Yannoulis Chalepas, the greatest sculptor of modern Greek art; works on paper from the most significant artists of Greek Modernism of the 1960s: Nikos Kessanlis, Vlassis Caniaris, Daniel (Panagopoulos), Chrissa Romanos, Alexis Akrithakis and internationally renowned artists from the Diaspora: Jannis Kounelis, Chrissa, Linda Benglis, Steve Gianakos, representatives of the 1980s Generation X: Nikos Tranos and gone before his time Nikos Alexiou and finally some of the most promising young visual artists: Elias Kafouros, Nikos Papadopoulos, Maria Polyzoidou and Anastasis Stratakis.
